Castelluccio is situated on Modigliana
Hills, between Faenza and Forlì, at an altitude ranging
from m. 250 to m. 500 (ft. 750 to ft. 1500). We are in Romagna,
in a territory that used to belong to Toscana until the
thirties, approximately km 100 (mi. 65) from Florence and
km 50 (mi. 30) from Bologna. |
The total extension of Castelluccio is about fifty hectares
(150 acres), with 12 hectares (36 acres) of vineyards and
2 hectares (6 acres) with olive trees. |
In 1975 in these
badlands, made of a compact layer of marl and limestone,
were located microareas called “ronchi”, particularly
suitable to the production of very high quality grapes.
Two grape varieties are grown in Castelluccio: Sangiovese
and Sauvignon Blanc. The first one, natural expression of
this land’s character, is a grape of such great generosity
and personality to have an important part among the world’s
greatest wines. Sauvignon Blanc, on the other hand, is not
a local grape, but here in Castelluccio expresses unique
features, never shown elsewhere. |

In 1999, Vittorio Fiore with two of his brothers, Ermanno
and Gian Michele, became owners, while his son and experienced winemaker Claudio, manages
today the Winery. Fiore, who created in the early ’80s
the wines of Castelluccio and personally contributed to
the international success of the Winery, thanks to his experience,
gives a very important technical support. |
